FORUM

February 2008

-There was a great turnout for the Ben Moore Memorial Run.  Over 60 “Moore’s Marines” graduates and friends did the “no minimum” distance run in Ben’s honor, and then shared memories, coffee and bagels.  The coffee was graciously donated by City Dock Café which was a frequent destination of Ben’s.  The bagels were donated by the current class of Moore’s Marines.  Everyone was assured the legacy of Moore’s Marine’s would continue in the spirit and location it has for 28 years.  The Defense Highway (Rt 450) year-round route and Moore’s Marines are synonymous with the dedication and passion Ben had for our sport.  -Plans are underway for a permanent BEN MOORE MEMORIAL RUN.  Memorial Services for Ben are expected to be in March at the Naval Academy.  Stay tuned for details.

-It was like a “who’s who” of local runners at the “Spirit of the Marathon” movie last week.  It was good to see old friends and hear the “oh’s, and ah’s” when familiar ground was covered – so to speak J  I recognized a couple of the CARA (Chicago Area Runners Association) marathon trainees as having participated in some of our Truman Parkway runs when they were in the area visiting.  For those not able to make the showing, fear not.  RunAnnapolis is working on a private showing.  Stay tuned.  It would help if we could gage interest so if you are interested in seeing the movie, send an email Info@RunAnnapolis.com

-Join the 29th annual RunAnnapolis.com “Moore’s Marine’s” Marathon Training Program.  Starting Saturday, June 7, 2008 train on the same course hundreds of previous First-Timers have successfully trained to achieve their dream.  We will have guaranteed entries for MARINE CORPS MARATHON, STEAMTOWN, BALTIMORE, and will prepare you for CHICAGO, JOHNSTOWN, RICMOND, NEW YORK, or any other Fall Marathon.  The program will also be structured to prepare trail runners for the JFK 50 Mile Run and the GUNPOWDER FALLS 50k as well.  You will be guided by certified, nationally recognized coaches, receive seminars by professional athletes and specialists in all aspects of running; such as massage, chiropractic care, kinesiology, and acupuncture. You will only have one FIRST Marathon. Train for it properly with us. Take the challenge and join us.  REGISTER at FitnessWerx.com

- Plans for the 2008 Annapolis Triathlon are ongoing, with many options on the table.  President Jeremy Parks and VP Tom Smith will be meeting with County, State, and City officials over the next few weeks to work out details that will be a win-win for everyone.

-The club is purchasing a trailer for use at club events and races.  We need a location to keep the trailer when it is not in use.  Anyone with some spare room is encouraged to contact Jeremy at jeremy@triannapolis.org

- An Annual Club Meeting is being planned for March. Date and Location TBD.  The Board is working to identify a sponsor to host the event.

-If you are a new ATC member you can expect to be contacted personally by a Board Member to welcome you to the club.

-All current members with expiring memberships will be contacted by a member of the Membership Committee to assist with the renewal process.

-Sign up now to get custom Annapolis Triathlon Club license plates!  We have our artwork ready and will soon be submitting the paperwork to MVA for approval.  We need at least 25 interested members to get started.  The cost of the custom license plates will be a *one-time* fee of $25.  (the fee does not recur every year like regular personalized plates)  We will have the IronCrab logo, the letters ATC on the side, "Annapolis Triathlon Club" written along the bottom, and a 4-digit number in the middle.  These are going to be great!  Note:  Be advised that these license plates replace your existing ones.  So, if you have personalized tags already, they will be replaced with the custom ATC tags.  If you are interested in getting your very own club license plates, this is what I need from you for now:

 1. Your full name

 2. Your current tag number (must be Maryland tags)

Once we are approved and I receive the individual sign-up forms from MVA, we can either connect at a club social or individually to get the forms and funds taken care of.  Please send your name and tag number to my email address:  jeff@jeffcarlson.net

These club license plates will be awesome!!!  C'mon guys!!  The sooner we get these ordered, the sooner they will be on our cars.
